Description:

Position Overview: 
The marketing and communications GA reports to the Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development (DSELD). Their duties include utilizing various communication strategies to engage, and promote, activities, events, programs, registered student organizations, and more. The GA assists the DSELD with social media marketing techniques to increase visibility and traffic to our office, website, and social media platforms. The GA will generate and schedule content to post on all social media platforms and monitor and maintain social media platforms, and other communication formats. The GA will support with the development of department engagement and events.  


Responsibilities: 

Marketing (60%): 

  • Develop marketing strategies and communication plans to increase student engagement. 

  • Prepare various marketing initiatives to help brand development and engagement with the department and affiliate programs.  

  • Design and implement marketing and advertising campaigns which include flyers, posters, e-mails, digital signage, and promotional pieces.  

  • Promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards of the University brand, and Department brand  

  • Assist in supervising the student marketing director of the Student Activities Board (SAB).  

  • Execute the production of the weekly Saints Letter. 

  • Collaborate with the Department of Housing and Residence Life.   

Engagement (30%): 

  • Assist in the management of the Student Activities Board, including but not limited to developing training, evaluations, and compliance.  

  • Assist in student organization policy compliance and process management with organization events. 

  • Assist with the early-move in orientation alongside with the Director of Student Engagement, and Director of FYE; assist with the following: program promotion, and communication,  

  • Assist in the planning and production of the annual Saints Awards Banquet.  

  • Assist with the development and creation of resources, templates, trainings, and other materials for student organizations resource OneDrive.  

  • Assist with the coordination of the Engagement Fair during the Fall semester. 

Administration (10%) 

  • Attend bi-weekly Student Activities Board Meetings. 

  • Support DSLED departmental events and initiatives. 

  • Support the day-to-day office responsibilities, including advising student organization leaders and advisors on university policies and procedures, event planning policies, risk management, recruitment, and member development.  

  • Serve as an advocate for the Department of Student Engagement and Leadership Development and be a resource to the campus community as it pertains to the mission, purpose, and intended learning outcomes of the department.  

  • Other duties as assigned.

A graduate student with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, who is passionate about marketing, student engagement, and community connection. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to enhancing the student experience at Thomas More University.


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Stipend: $6,000 per year.
  • Tuition reimbursement.

    *For housing to be included graduate assistant will participate in the on-call duty rotation for Housing & Residence Life* 
Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Canva, Microsoft office 365, Constant Contact. Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

  • Provides high-quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.

Education & Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in a Thomas More University graduate program (including the 4+ program) by the assistantship start date.
  • Preferred: Experience in a student leadership role such as:
    • Resident Assistant (RA)
    • Student Activities Board (SAB)
    • Executive Board member of a campus organization
    • Student Government Association (SGA)
    • Orientation leader
    • Previous Marking role
  • Assistantship is contracted annually, with renewal based on performance and evaluation.

Physical & Technical Requirements:

  • Uses computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, and other office equipment.
  • Minimal travel (less than 10%).
  • Frequently sits or stands at a desk/workstation for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to walk or move around campus.
  • Must have hand/eye coordination for office tasks.
  • Ability to analyze data and reports to make recommendations.
