ENG 251 Details
3 Credit Hours
Course Description:
ENG150 must be taken prior to or along with ENG251. Inspired by Pope Francis’s letter “On the Role of Literature in Formation,” this course introduces students to great works of literature, inviting them to explore “the value of reading novels and poems as part of one’s path to personal maturity.” Specific titles will be selected by the instructor and may consist of canonical works including novels, poems, short stories, dramatic works, or any combination thereof. Through close engagement with these “ever-fruitful” texts, students will not only sharpen their reading skills but also gain practice reflecting on foundational questions such as the meaning of life, their place in the world, and their responsibility to others. Assignments will include one or more projects in which students demonstrate mastery of an academic documentation format.
