On October 2, 2026, at 9:19 a.m, the Department of Public Safety was alerted of a fire alarm activation in Stallmeyer Hall. Upon arrival, Public Safety found the fire alarm was triggered by a heat sensor in a dorm room. Public Safety officers responded to the dorm room to investigate the cause of the alarm. The investigation revealed a heat sensor activation in the dorm room but there were no signs of fire or smoke that would cause the alarm to activate. As the investigation continued, Public Safety learned a student was using a hair drying in the dorm room. It was determined that the prolonged use of the hair dryer caused the temperature in the room to increase to the point it set off the heat sensor. The Edgewood Fire Department arrived on scene, confirmed there was no fire and was able to reset the fire alarm system. After which residents were permitted to return to their rooms.
