Thomas More University, located in beautiful Crestview Hills, Kentucky, is seeking an individual possessing a combination of financial accounting expertise, attention to detail and accurancy, and analytical skills to be an on-site Staff Accountant.

Key Responsibilities
As a Staff Accountant, your contributions will support the university’s financial health and operational success.  In this role, you will:

  • Audit Support & Financial Statements: Collaborate on audit work papers and the preparation of financial statements, providing essential data and insights.
  • Endowment and Fund Management: Analyze and manage university endowment funds, ensuring effective stewardship of our resources.
  • Month-End Close Process: Take charge of the month-end closing process, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
  • Journal Entries & Ledger Analysis: Prepare and enter journal entries; review and analyze various general ledger accounts.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset ledger, supporting capital expenditure planning and asset tracking.
  • Bank Account Reconciliation: Reconcile all university bank accounts to ensure accurate balances.
  • Federal Fund Requests & Reporting: Oversee federal fund requests, returns, and reporting for Pell, SEOG, College Work Study, Perkins Loans, and other federal programs in coordination with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Payroll Tax Management: Handle payroll tax deposits and reporting, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Annual Tax Reconciliations: Prepare and reconcile annual W-2, W-3, and 941 forms, along with quarterly sales tax submissions.
  • Inventory Accounting: Manage general ledger activity related to bookstore inventory.
  • Government Reports & Surveys: Prepare various government reports, including IPEDS, FISAP, and other department-specific grants and surveys.
  • Controller Assistance: Support the University Controller as needed with special projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Additional Duties as Needed: Flexibility to take on other finance-related tasks as they arise, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, ideally in a non-profit, higher education, or public accounting environment.

  • Proficiency in ERP-based accounting software (e.g., Banner, Oracle, PeopleSoft) and Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions like pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.

  • Familiarity with fund accounting principles, endowment accounting, and/or grant accounting.  Knowledge of federal reporting requirements, including experience with A-133 audits, Pell Grant administration, and other Department of Education reporting processes.
