About the Dean of Students

The Dean of Students plays a vital role in fostering a supportive, student-centered environment that enhances engagement, well-being, and retention. Reporting to the AVP for Academic and Student Success, this position oversees residence life, student conduct, engagement, campus health, and counseling services. Responsibilities include leading student success initiatives, managing crisis response, enforcing community standards, and advocating for wellness programs. The Dean collaborates with faculty and staff to integrate academic and co-curricular functions, ensuring a holistic student experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Collaborate with the AVP for Academic and Student Success, faculty, and staff to foster an environment that reflects the University’s mission and values. Integrate academic and co-curricular functions to support holistic student success.
  • Student Success & Retention: Work closely with University leadership to develop and refine student retention strategies. Provide leadership in assessment and reporting, using data-driven insights to continuously enhance the student experience.
  • Supervision & Vision: Guide and oversee Counseling and Health Services, Student Engagement, Residence Life, and Student Conduct teams to align with the University’s strategic goals. Develop a coherent vision for these offices that prioritizes student engagement and well-being.
  • Student Engagement: Create, implement, and assess a comprehensive student engagement and wellness program that enhances student belonging and involvement. Support student organizations, clubs, and activities aligned with the University’s values.
  • Residence Life: Manage residence life programs that offer an engaging, safe, and inclusive living environment. Ensure compliance with budget goals, residency requirements, and relevant regulations.
  • Health & Wellness Advocacy: Oversee health services and wellness initiatives to support student well-being. Act as an advocate for student-centered spaces and facilities, overseeing assessments and budget proposals to ensure the enhancement of these environments.
  • Crisis Management: Serve on the Crisis Management Team and Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team, leading crisis response and intervention for students facing challenges. Collaborate with campus safety, counseling, and other departments to maintain a safe environment.
  • Community Standards: Enforce the Saints Community Standards to create a respectful and accountable campus environment. Oversee student conduct processes, working with departments to address and resolve disciplinary issues effectively.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations related to higher education.
