Dr. Christy Petroze has been with Thomas More University in the Education Department since 2009. She received her doctorate in Curriculum and Administration from the University of Kentucky, her master’s in Reading from Northern Kentucky University, and her bachelor’s in Middle Grades Education from the University of Kentucky. She is currently the Department Chair and the Director of Student Teaching. As the Director of Student Teaching, Dr. Petroze advises the junior and senior status teacher candidates and oversees the supervision and certification of each candidate. Dr. Petroze is also involved in many committees both on an off campus. She is part of the Faculty Coordinating Committee for the University, she works closely with local teachers and school administrators on the Teacher Education Committee for Thomas More University, and she is as school board member for Newport Central Catholic. Dr. Petroze has taught multiple courses at Thomas More University at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Dr. Petroze actively engages as a curriculum consultant for several schools within the Diocese of Covington. She was granted a sabbatical for the Spring 2021 semester. Her research focused on a collaboration with St. Therese School to guide the implementation of Professional Learning Communities designed to meet the needs of small schools (those with one classroom per grade level). This collaboration focused on the development of an instruction and assessment cycle specific to the needs of the St. Therese School community. This collaboration was overwhelmingly successful and is ongoing. Dr. Petroze also works with St. Timothy Catholic School as well as with Newport Central Catholic on ongoing curriculum and assessment consultation.
Prior to coming to Thomas More University, Dr. Petroze was a sixth and seventh grade language arts teacher at Highlands Middle School for thirteen years, and she spent another year at Campbell County Middle School as an Instructional Coach.
