Cory Blackson is entering his 16th year in the athletic department at Thomas More University during the 2023-24 academic year and serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
From 2008 to 2021 Blackson was the Director of the Athletic Communication and took on the role as senior athletic compliance officer in 2015. In 2018 he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Communication and then in the summer of 2021 he was moved full-time to compliance as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
Blackson is responsible for the overall development, implementation, and review of the University’s athletic compliance program. He will also be responsible for the daily operation of the compliance programs, including rules education, rules interpretations, and coordinating rules compliance efforts.
In his 13 years as head of athletic communication at Thomas More, Blackson has expanded the reach of the Saints by moving into social media with Twitter and Facebook and added video webcasts and live in-game statistics of Thomas More athletic events. In 2012 he spearheaded the total redesign of Thomas More's athletic website with PrestoSports and moved the site to .com status and in 2015 and 2018 he again worked with PrestoSports to redesign the website.
Blackson, who graduated from Capital University in 2002 and earned his MBA from Thomas More in 2017, was the assistant sports information director at Baldwin Wallace University from 2006-2008, where he was the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, volleyball and softball. Prior to working at Baldwin Wallace, he spent one year as the sports information director of the USA South Athletic Conference in Fayetteville, North Carolina and one year as the assistant sports information director at Capital. As an undergraduate at Capital, Blackson was the student assistant with the men’s basketball team and was the Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s basketball team for two years after graduating.
Blackson is a member of the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC) and the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA), where he served on the organizations' Academic All-America committee from 2006 to 2021. He also served as the Head Men's Golf Coach at Thomas More during the 2010-2011 academic year. Blackson served on the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Mid-Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee during the 2010-11 academic year and on the Men's Golf Great Lakes Regional Advisory Committee during the 2013-14 academic year. He currently serves on the Mid-South Conference's Eligibility Committee.
