Inorganic Chemistry
Tyler Green is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Thomas More College. Originally hailing from the small town of Caneyville in south-central Kentucky, he earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Centre College in 1999. While there, he also competed as a four-year member of the men’s tennis team. After graduating from Centre, Tyler began his work in inorganic chemistry investigating the spectroscopy, photophysics, and photochemistry of platinum(II) diimine complexes with Professor Bill Connick at the University of Cincinnati. He completed his doctoral dissertation, entitled "Synthesis, Structure and Spectroscopy of Platinum(II) Diimine Complexes With Potentially Facially-Coordinating Ligands," in the summer of 2005.
In addition to teaching courses in General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry, Tyler served as the Chair of the Chemistry Department from 2006 to 2016. He also served as the Chair of the Faculty General Assembly from 2011-2013. His research interests include synthesizing and characterizing small molecule metal complexes capable of undergoing multi-electron transfer.
Tyler, his wife Erinn, and their three children T.J. (7), Caroline (4) and Mary Kate (<1) currently reside in Mount Lookout across the river in Cincinnati. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys traveling, playing and watching tennis, catching Pokemon with the kids, working around the house, and enjoying all types of music.
