R. Steven Flynn, Ph.D., professor, Department of Accountancy, holds a doctorate and BBA in accounting, both from the University of Cincinnati, and is a certified public accountant (CPA).He teaches ACC 101 Principles of Financial Accounting, ACC 102 Principles of Managerial Accounting, ACC 420 Accounting Information Systems, ACC 422 Auditing Principles and Professional Ethics, and ACC 604 Managerial Accounting (MBA program).
Flynn served as chair of the Department of Accountancy for 17 years and chair of the Division of Accounting and Business for 12 years. Under his leadership, the Department of Accountancy achieved separate accounting accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, a mark of educational quality awarded to top accounting programs in the nation.
Since his arrival at Thomas More, Flynn has pursued an active research agenda, publishing 30 peer-reviewed journal articles. His research has primarily focused on nonprofessional investor and donor perceptions of the reliability of the financial reporting process of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations respectively. His work has appeared in Accounting Education: An International Journal, Journal of Academy of Business and Economics, Journal of International Business and Economics, Journal of International Finance and Economics, Management Research Review, Universal Journal of Accounting and Finance, and others. Flynn currently serves on the editorial board of two international journals.
Away from the classroom, Flynn enjoys working out, playing the trumpet and guitar, singing bass in an interfaith community choir, reading, writing, and practicing his French and German speaking skills.
