All University employees, students, visitors, vendors, volunteers, and third parties. This policy shall not apply to law enforcement offices or federal agents authorized to carry weapons by their governmental agency.
This policy is to prevent the possession of firearms and other dangerous items on school property and to promote a safe environment for all community members.
Weapon: Any object or substance designed to inflict a wound, cause injury, or incapacitate, including without limitation all firearms (including replica or imitation firearms, such as toys), BB guns, air guns, pellet guns, paint guns, crossbows, long bows, swords, martial arts weapons, brass knuckles, knives with blades over 4 inches, tasers, and chemicals such as tear gas or pepper spray, excluding normal over the counter available self-defense sprays.
Fireworks: Any fireworks, fire crackers, sparklers, rockets, or any propellant-activated device whose intended purpose is primarily for illumination.
Explosives: Any dynamite, nitroglycerin, black powder or other similar explosive material including plastic explosives.
Ammunition: Any Material capable of being projected by a weapon and makes a weapon operational.
Thomas More University prohibits the use, possession, display or storage of any weapons, ammunition, explosive devices, or fireworks on University property or at University events. This includes University housing, parking areas, and private vehicles parked or operated either on campus or at any off-campus facility owned, leased, or operated by the University except as authorized by KRS 527.020.
Participants of University sanctioned sports and clubs may use weapons provided or approved by the University during the event.
The use or possession of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices, or fireworks for academic or research purposes must be approved by the Provost.
*An exception may be made when submitted in writing and approval is given by the Department of Campus Safety for specific timeframes and only when supervised by university personnel (e.g. the use of dulled swords or a cap gun in a theater production).

Any individual found in the possession of a weapon, ammunition, explosive device or firework may be removed from campus. Students and employees found in violation of the policy will be subject to sanctions outlined in the Saints Community Standards or the University employee manual. Any prohibited item discovered in student possession will be confiscated by University officials and the decision to return the item will rest with the Dean of Students or designee. Any illegal items will be referred to local law enforcement. Anyone found violating this policy may also be subject to criminal sanctions as well.
