Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

Comment on Policy

AUDIENCE

This policy applies to all students, employees, contractors, and visitors.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Thomas More University is committed to providing a safe and healthy working and learning environment.

DEFINITIONS

Tobacco products: cigarettes, cigars/cigarillos/filtered little cigars, conventional pipes, water pipes/hookah, and e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco/snuff/dip, snus and dissolvable tobacco products.

Tobacco related: use of a tobacco brand or corporate name, trademark, logo, symbol, or motto, selling message, recognizable pattern or colors, or any other indicia of product identical to or similar to, or identifiable with, those used for any brand of tobacco products or company which manufactures tobacco products.

THE POLICY

The use of all tobacco products is prohibited on all University grounds and properties, including residental buildings, both indoors and out, and University vehicles, owned or leased, at all times, by students, employees, contractors, and visitors.  

No tobacco-related advertising or sponsorship shall be permitted on University property, at University sponsored events, or in publications produced by the University, with the exception of advertising in a newspaper or magazine that is not produced by Thomas More University and which is lawfully sold, bought, or distributed on University property. 

Any individual found to be in violation of this policy will be required stop using tobacco products or advertising tobacco-related products. Violations of this policy by students will be referred to Student Affairs.  Violations by employees will be referred to Human Resources. Violations by contractors will be referred to the CFO. Visitors may be asked to leave campus.
