Course Description:
An introduction to astronomy in integrated lecture and lab format surveying topics ranging from our planetary home to the grandest cosmological scales. Topics include gravity, the nature of light, apparent motions of the sun, moon, and planets in the sky, telescopes and how they are used to collect and analyze radiation, the origin of the solar system, stars, extrasolar planets, galaxies, the large-scale structure of the Universe, and the Big Bang. Students will receive hands-on opportunities to analyze space telescope data and use the Thomas More Observatory.
