GEC 255 Details
1-3 Credit Hours
Course Description:
In this special topics seminar, we will critically explore how careers are represented, mythologized, and challenged across various media platforms. From high-stakes courtroom dramas to the gritty grind of startup life, media has played a role in shaping our perceptions of professional life. Through films, television series, podcasts, documentaries, and digital content, we will examine how different industries and career paths are portrayed--what narratives are emphasized, which voices are centered or silences, and how these portrayals influence real-world expectations and ambitions. Students will engage in close analysis of media texts, reflect on cultural and social implications, and consider their own career aspirations through a more media-literate lens. No pre-requisites required. Curiosity and an open mind encouraged.
